A Tooth Suffering from a Sensitive Dental Filling Might Need a Dental Crown

Posted .

Failing to maintain good oral hygiene practices on a consistent basis can gradually start to weaken and demineralize your tooth enamel. In time, it could even distress the bond between one of your dental fillings causing it to feel sensitive and uncomfortable.

In a situation like this, you should consider having the tooth examined by a dentist like Dr. Bachar Saba. After performing a basic assessment of the tooth, he can help you understand your treatment options.

In a case where there isn’t sufficient healthy tooth enamel remaining to secure a new dental filling, Dr. Saba might recommend treating the tooth with a dental crown. This will essentially replicate the entire tooth enamel layer with an alternate dental material.

The dental restoration process starts with Dr. Saba removing whatever remains of the tooth’s enamel layer. This leaves behind a small post of dentin called an abutment.  It will eventually anchor the dental crown in your mouth.

A detailed impression will be made of to the abutment and the surrounding teeth including the teeth in your bite pattern. It will be sent to a dental lab to aid special dental technicians in creating your crown. To protect the abutment from harm Dr. Saba will secure a hard-plastic temporary crown over it. When your dental crown is ready you will need to return to B. SABA DMD, PC to have it cemented into place with a strong dental adhesive.

If you live in Walpole, Massachusetts, and you have a tooth with a sensitive dental filling you should not delay calling 508-668-1531 to have it treated at B. SABA DMD, PC.
